Microchanneled devices

We provide exchanger manufacturers and system integrators with micro-channeled devices (cores) made of stacked plates to obtain parallel or cross flow of different fluid streams.

Microchannel cores for heat exchangers and advanced process applications.

Any geometry. Extreme pressures. Fully in-house.

Microchanneled devices are custom microchannel heat exchanger cores and process microchannel devices, manufactured from stacked chemically etched plates and consolidated by the proprietary diffusion bonding process to form high‑pressure, high‑temperature monolithic blocks.

Microchannel Devices supplies them to heat exchanger manufacturers and system integrators as stack-ready semi-finished components.

Our strenghts

Fully integrated process

Chemical etching, diffusion bonding, post processing and testing take place in a single production facility, with direct control over every critical parameter: geometrical, diffusion bonding process, performance, cleanliness.

Full process control with no dependency on external treatment enables our zero defect policy.

Custom design and manufacturing

We engineer with you, not just for you.
Every device is bespoke. Our engineers work alongside your team to develop the most efficient solution —including architectures an integrated process makes possible: multistream PCHE, hybrid PCHE, cold plates. And because the full chain is ours, we move at a speed others cannot match.

Fast & flexible

Those who work with large-scale PCHE manufacturers know the cost of long lead times: internal approval cycles, commercial teams translating technical specifications before they reach the engineering department, and delivery schedules that stretch well beyond project timelines. Microchannel Devices works differently: direct access to the technical team from the first feasibility inquiry, through quotation to final test documentation sign-off. The agility of a specialised SME, with the certified quality that oil & gas, nuclear and hydrogen markets demand.

High performance

We etch plates larger in width and length than any competitor — up to 850 × 3000 mm — and build PCHE cores engineered for extreme conditions: pressures above 900 bar, temperatures from −200 °C to +900 °C, hydrostatic testing up to 2000 bar, including lethal service in Oil & Gas.

Diffusion bonding turns the stacked plates into a single monolithic block with the strength of the parent material: no brazing, no gaskets, no external welds. Maximum performance in minimum space — up to 85% smaller and lighter than traditional heat exchangers, with ~98% thermal efficiency.

Certified quality

Our devices are designed and built according to ASME BPVC VIII Div. 1 and PED 2014/68/EU. ASME U Stamp and ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 — certified by DEKRA — cover our products, our processes and the way we care for people and the environment.

microchanneled devices

Configurations and operating envelope.

Microchanneled devices are built from stacks of etched plates arranged to form internal circuits for one or more fluids in parallel flow or cross flow.

The proprietary diffusion bonding process consolidates the stacked plates into a single microchannel heat exchanger core — without mechanical joints and with long-term leak-tightness even under demanding operating conditions.

Diffusion-bonded cores in AISI 316 can typically operate up to 900 °C and withstand working pressures up to 900 bar (90 MPa). The maximum allowable combination of temperature and pressure is always verified for each specific application.

The same technology enables the manufacture of very high pressure-resistant microchannel cores in various shapes designed to fit into very limited space — such as marine applications.

Cores can be made not only for heat exchange between fluids but also for many other applications which may require fluids running in channels of small size along complicated paths (like in bioreactors for CO2 conversion).

Cores can also be fitted with flanged ports or any other connection and flow distribution device appropriate to the relevant application, temperature, max pressure and mechanical stresses.

Microchannel devices for process applications

Beyond heat exchange.

Microchanneled cores are not limited to heat exchange between fluids.

They can be engineered for any application requiring fluids to run in small channels along complicated paths, such as bioreactors for CO₂ conversion.

Cores can be equipped with flanged ports, flow distributors and any other connection device — sized to the specific operating temperature, pressure and mechanical load of the application.

µCD have tools to design the best channel geometry pattern and simulate results (pressure drop, flow distribution, heat exchange), helping our customers to achieve the optimal result.

Co-engineering support

Co-engineering microchannel core geometry and performance

µCD uses dedicated simulation tools to design channel geometry patterns and model microchannel core behaviour in service: pressure drop, flow distribution and heat transfer.

This enables direct co-engineering support to the client in defining the optimal internal architecture — starting not from a catalogue, but from the specific process parameters: fluids, operating conditions, footprint constraints, pressure and temperature requirements.

Microchanneled devices are produced using the same chemical etching and diffusion bonding process that MCD uses for its own printed circuit heat exchangers (PCHE). Clients who have already worked with MCD on a PCHE and need a custom microchannel core for a process application beyond heat exchange will find the same team, the same engineering approach and the same production process.

Microchanneled cores
welding type.

We provide exchanger manufacturers and system integrators with micro-channeled devices (cores) made of stacked plates to obtain parallel or cross flow of different fluid streams.

Cores can be provided either simply stacked with position corner tack welding or fully welded with proprietary diffusion bonding process (DB) to obtain a leak proof tight monolithic block.
